World Space Week, celebrated every year from October 4th to 10th, is probably one of the largest annual space events in the world. This global celebration highlights the incredible advancements in science and technology that continue to shape our future and improve our lives. As a PR and marketing firm specialising in the satellite and broadcast sectors, we’re proud to celebrate World Space Week, which not only showcases the wonders of space but also emphasises the importance of inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators.
Spotlighting STEM
One of the key challenges facing the space and technology sectors is the growing need for more skilled professionals in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects. Despite the demand for specialists in these subjects, there remains a significant gap in the number of young people pursuing these fields. And so, World Space Week isn’t just about celebrating scientific achievements, it’s also about education and inspiration. It plays a vital role in closing the skills gap by engaging young people and sparking their curiosity about space, technology, and the incredible potential of a STEM career.
For many students, especially those in underserved areas, exposure to space science and technology might be the spark that ignites a lifelong passion. Bringing science to life through real-world applications and hands-on experiences can transform how young people view STEM subjects, making them more accessible, exciting, and, most importantly, achievable. Promoting educational initiatives to engage young people in STEM is an important part of ensuring that the future space and satellite workforce is well-equipped to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

Space Centre Snowdonia event
A fantastic example of this educational outreach is the upcoming event at Space Centre Snowdonia, on October 8th and 9th. This two-day event will welcome local schools to explore the exciting world of space technology and engineering. Students will have the chance to engage with space professionals, participate in interactive activities, and learn about the various career paths within the space industry.
Events like this provide a unique opportunity for young people to see firsthand the thrilling possibilities that a STEM career can offer. The event is an investment in the future of space exploration and technology development and a chance to cultivate the next generation of innovators right here in Wales, where Radical Moves is based.
About Radical Moves
Radical Moves is a PR and marketing agency specialising in the satellite and broadcast industries. We have forged a unique place in the vibrant space and satcoms sector, working not only with vendors, but also with some of the industry’s influential trade associations. This includes the Satcoms Innovation Group, which our Managing Director, Helen Weedon, manages. This means that as well as having an excellent network, we have direct access to knowledge and insight from those at the sharp end of operations.
We are committed to supporting efforts that drive interest in STEM, and this week Helen Reynolds and myself will be visiting schools to talk to young people about the satellite industry to raise awareness of, and to encourage an interest in STEM.
Support the efforts to drive interest in STEM
The need for STEM professionals is now more pressing than ever and is only going to increase as our reliance on technology grows. If we want to continue pushing the boundaries of human knowledge and capability, we must ensure that young people are equipped with the skills and inspiration they need to embark on these careers.
It’s therefore important that everyone across the industry supports efforts to drive interest in STEM. Whether through outreach programs, partnerships with educational institutions, or sponsoring events like Space Week, we all have a responsibility in playing a role in ensuring the future of our industry is bright.
